The skit was followed by a short break, when refreshments were served, an artistic presen-tation of fresh and dried fruit, cakes, pastries and of course hamentaschen. The refreshments were purchased and prepared by Alain and Carolle Assor, Max and Annette Benchetrit, and Leo Wertheim. Thank you everyone! Following the skit, Jerry Stein, assisted by his wife Linda, gave a splendid show of magic, thoroughly enjoyed by adults and children alike. Gerry Mintzberg and his Jazzmen then treated us to over an hour of Klezmer music, along with a few jazz standards. As Gerry has not been well, and is currently undergoing medical treatment, his presence was all the more appreciated. Members took their partners and danced, and those who didn't have partners just twirled by themselves, like Princess Soussan. Over 40 people attended this event and we all agreed, it was one of our most successful Purim celebrations.

SSJC group sees "Va, vis et deviens" at JPL More than a dozen members turned out to see the movie Va, vis et deviens shown at the Jewish Public Library on March 18th, 2006. Although the movie was in French, a number of anglophone members also enjoyed the movie and socialized. Seder for Singles: first night April 12 Passover is no fun if you have nobody to share it with. As we have a number of single people in our community, we are organizing a pot luck Seder for Singles on the first night, Wednesday, April 12th, at 6:30 p.m. at 3248 rue Des Quatre-Saisons, St-Hubert. Visit to the Montreal Holocaust Museum April 23 A group visit is to be organized on Sunday, April 23, at 2:00 p.m. to the Montreal Holocaust Museum at Cummings Square on Côte St. Catherine Road. Yom Ha'Shoah remembrance at the Centre April 25 The SSJC will mark Yom Ha'Shoah with a commemorative ceremony at the community centre on Tuesday, April 25th, at 6:30 p.m. Yom Ha'Azmaut (Independence Day) Celebrations The SSJC is holding a bagel breakfast at our centre on April 30th at 10 a.m., guest speaker to be announced later as we are awaiting his confirmation. We will also participate in the May 3rd rally in Montreal. Rendez-vous at the Cavendish Mall at 9:45 a.m., or at Pierre Elliott Trudeau park at 10:30 a.m. CSUQ and CJC affiliations The SSJC is now an official member of the Conseil séfarade unifié du Québec and has been invited to send representatives to their Board meetings. Max Benchetrit and Rosalie Miller-Hodson have now attended two such meetings. Similarly, we also send representatives to board meetings of the Canadian Jewish Congress, a grass roots organization under the umbrella of FCJA. We continue to sit on the Council of Synagogues of Greater Montreal, where we are represented by Mr. Isaac Sayegh, a member of our board of directors and head of our Religious Committee.
